At last another three very welcome three points as the Reds take advantage of a bizarre winner from Eifion Williams - but they all count.

On a pleasantly warm evening in Greater Manchester, both Sam Aiston and Matty Done were unavailable after being hit with a virus, while Neil Taylor was rested due to a hamstring strain, so in came Ryan Valentine, Robbie Garrett and Eifion Williams.

Match referee was Scott Mathieson, who sent off two Wrexham players at the Racecourse last March, when these two teams fought out a 1-1 draw with Bury scoring in the 93rd minute.

Playing with two strikers at Gigg Lane, the Reds were on the attack from the start, enjoying plenty of possession in the home half of the pitch.

With Eifion Williams partnering Michael proctor, the ball was staying up front when the Reds pushed on. Chris Llewellyn saw a drive fly just wide, while Neil Roberts saw his piledriver blocked

It was 10 minutes before the Shakers got forward with any intent, first winning a free kick on their left and then a corner when the ball was played in.

On 18 minutes, Wrexham played a nice short corner routine with the ball coming back to taker Wes Baynes, his low cross was stepped over by Neil Roberts, Bury cleared their lines to the edge of the box, where Baynes stepped up for a shot that was deflected away for another flag kick.

Bury came to life on 27 minutes when first Adams and then, from a better position, Paul Scott, both enjoyed free headers from about eight yards. Happily, the pair could only aim their efforts at keeper Anthony Williams.

The Reds went ahead in a better sweet moment on 31 minutes, when a long ball hit downfield caused Bury keeper Jim Provett to race from his area, but the stopper misjudged badly the bouncing ball, which allowed Eifion Williams to round him and head home from 10-yards into an empty net.

As he ran in celebration to the Wrexham fans at the East End of the ground he must have pulled a muscle and as he was then forced to limp from the pitch to be replaced by Marc Williams.

From the restart, Bury pushed forward and Andy Parrish lunged at a Colin Woodthorpe's cross that got behind the Wrexham defence, but Ryan Valentine was just able to dive in front of wing back, who was threatening to score at the back post, and head behind for a corner.

Wrexham kept up their pressure for the rest of the half, with Bury struggling to find any rhythm in front of their goal and survived without further disappointment through to the break more by good fortune than good defending.

Four minutes after the restart, Scott misplaced his pass in midfield, enabling Proctor to collect in space and send in a 30-yard effort that forced Provett into a diving save.

Marc Williams banged into Buchanan as he jumped for a header in the middle of the park, which was a foul, but Mr. Mathieson judged it serious enough to warrant a yellow card!

Bury slowly started to play the ball around, but were being restricted to long range efforts, like the one from Wales U21 international Nicky Adams which flew into the Wrexham fans behind Taff's goal.

Wrexham forward on the hour mark and won a corner when Williams' shot was touched behind, but the flag kick was flat towards the corner of the area, with no one close enough to take advantage.

The home team made a switch on 61 minutes, when on-loan striker Liam Hughes was brought on for centre half Steve Halsam, with the Shakers going with four at the back and adding an extra man up front.

Bury forced a moment of concern after 64 minutes as a hanging cross was aimed at Bishop, but under pressure from Baynes he was only able to head over the crossbar from fairly close range.

Sixty seconds later a half cleared ball came back into the Wrexham box was not collected by Williams and Bishop's shot from a tight angle was blocked for a corner by Steve Evans. The cross was aimed deep for centre back Ben Futcher to get in a towering header that ended up in the side netting - phew!

Wrexham then broke quickly with valentine over lapping Llewellyn and crossing deep himself. Garrett kept the ball in play laid off to Baynes who crossed for Marc Williams to get a fre header five yards out straight in front of goal, but the youngster was unable to beat Provett.

Chris Casper added another striker into the fray on 74 minutes when he introduced Andy Mangan for defender Colin Woodthorpe and Buchanan dropping into the back line.

The Welshman were now happy to try and catch Bury on the break and Neil Roberts tried to prosper from such a move as Proctor and Williams combined to set him up some 25-yards out.

Proctor was taken off after 80 minutes of hard graft to a great ovation from the 500 plus Wrexham fans to be replaced by Josh Johnson.

More sloppy play at the back saw Futcher put in a poor back header to his keeper, which Williams almost took advantage of but the defender was able to redeem himself.

A final throw of the dice saw striker Glynn Hurst replace full back Parrish with four minutes remaining, but straight away Wrexham broke away and had Josh spotted two red shirts to his right, then a second goal was on offer.

At least the watching Rochdale manager Keith Hill will have been a lot happier tonight - after watching an exciting Wrexham display!
