It was a spirited effort on a wild day at Underhill, but some poor defending at times was cause for our downfall on an afternoon we did enough going forward to have gained some reward at this crucial stage of the season.
The Reds started playing down the hill, but into a strong wind, after the home side had won the toss.
Broughton won a flick on at a throw in after six minutes, finding Michael Proctor at the near post and while he spun to get a shot away, the ball went wide. They repeated the move a few minutes later when Broughton won a corner.
A quick free kick on nine minutes, saw Proctor beat the offside tap top square the ball, where Done was denied by a great block, then when the ball came back out Llewellyn's long range effort was flicked on by Broughton, but the ball carried inches over the home crossbar.
A great ball through from Bolland through on 17 minutes, but while Done caught up with the pass his cross was knocked behind for a corner as the red shirts swarmed down the slope.
On 27 minutes, Aiston slipped a pass through to release Proctor on goal, but for some strange reason the referee refused to allow the advantage and stopped play - much to the despair of the travelling fans.
Then Spender took advantage of some good work by Hall in midfield to race over the half way line and curled a low pass into the box, but Broughton was flagged offside as he arrived at the back post.
Two consecutive free kicks for the Reds lead to Matty Done trying his luck from 25-yards, but the ball just bounced through the keeper Lee Harrison in the middle of his goal.
The Bees were then awarded consecutive corners, the first of which was headed down by Sagi Burton for Yakubu to stab goal wards, which Spender cleared of the line for the second flag kick.
Thomas picked up a great pass from Adomah and was clear for a shot that was aimed at the far post, but Ward made a great save and then hit the ball long for Proctor to chase. The striker collected and fired in a powerful shot that caught Burton full in the face, forcing the referee to stop play.
Then two minutes into added time, disaster as Llewellyn gave away a silly free kick out on the right wing and as the set piece was floated in, Ismail Yakubu rose at the near post to head down, beating the Wrexham keeper and giving the home side a half time lead.

Barnet opened the second half with a ball down the right wing which Adomah crossed the near post and Evans had to head behind to concede the corner.
With the Reds pinned back into their own half, the Bees added a second goal on 51 minutes, when Anthony Thomas tried an overhead kick which left Ward stranded as he watched the ball sail over him and inside his back post.
Using the slope well, Done struggled to keep up with Adomah and the winger's low shot was held by the keeper going down low at his near post.
Then some hope when Drewe Broughton rose high at the back post to head back across the face of the home goal and saw it cross the line via the opposite post.
Having got back into the match, the Reds displayed some poor defending on 62 minutes, when Thomas was allowed to go right across their box and lay off a pass for Nicky Nicolau to fire in a low shot that found its way into the back of the net.
What was Simon Spender was doing so far foward a minute later, but happily he was there to pick on a back pass from Paul Hall and fire ina low shot that beat Harrison.
Brian Little alters the formation with Mike Williams coming on for Richard Hope, pushing Done back into midfield with 25 minutes to go.
With Wrexham throwing caution to the wind, Done forced Harrison into a great one-handed save with an shot at the near post.
Then Wrexham survived an amazing sequence with first Birchall striking a post and then Nicolau forcing Ward into a top class save as he tipped the shot away for a corner.
A Done cross from the right was aimed at Broughton but Devera stepped across him to concede the corner, at which Wrexham kept up the pressure although an offside flag brought it to and end on this occasion.
With his first touch as a substitute Kieran St Aimie's header at a corner hit the crossbar and then 30 seconds later his next effort hit a post!
As the fourth official indicated four added minutes, Broughton raced clear but his rising shot drifted wide of the target.
