FOR Youth team coach Steve Cooper, losing on penalties to Oldham Athletic was not the real concern, it was how the side performed over the 120 minutes and especially when having a man advantage for the final 35 minutes at Boundary Park:

"While we improved in the second half, our display in the first half cost us the game.

"We gave away a very sloppy goal, which the lads know, and it was down to individual errors, which we had tried to work on in the build up to this game.

"The FA Youth Cup is all about lads playing on the bigger stage, it is similar to if you go and make your first team debut. Therefore you look at individuals and while we did better in the second half, we still missed three or four scoring chances and it has cost us.

"Yes it's disappointing to go out on penalties, but they can go either way. I have though told the lads that I don't want them thinking that losing on penalties means they have done enough, as over the 120 minutes we have not played well.

"Especially with Oldham going down to 10-men, as we didn't seem to be able to work out how to play with the extra man.

"We had the extra space and the extra man, but we didn't use it to any great extent or make it tell."
