A goal from Steve Evans with 11 minutes remaining was enough to secure a point from the home game with fellow strugglers Macclesfield Town after Jamie Tolley had given the visitors the lead early in the second period.

With Notts County and Dagenham & Redbridge losing over the weekend and Mansfield and Chester drawing, a win would have seen us put the pressure on the sides above us but despite dominating for long periods we once again struggled to create enough scoring opportunities.

Reds manager Brian Little, "I think that in lots of recent games the commitment has been great but the quality has been average in most cases.

"It was the final ball that let us down a lot of the time.

"I think that Macclesfield had a system but once young Marc (Williams) played behind their front two and pulled their left full-back out of position there was a massive gap  which allowed 'Spends' to get in some great positions but the delivery was poor. It was from Simon today but on other days it has been other people.

"They had two free-kicks and put them into wonderfully dangerous areas. If we didn't practice set-pieces then I would say fine but we spend quite a bit of time dropping set piece balls into areas and in fairness through the week we are not bad at it.

"Coming into the game we've got loads of quantity but we're lacking in quality.

"When I say quantity I mean work rate, commitment, effort, but we make loads of mistakes and that is where the quality comes in.

"It is costing us every week, week in and week out, and it was another poor goal to concede.

"We felt that if we defended today and kept them out, then we might get a goal.

"We've gone to sleep on a set piece, they've had a free shot and then we have to change again.

"I have said to my staff in the last week or two that there has not been many games where I don't have to do something drastic.

"I could hear the fans but I am running out of different tactics to use. When we changed tactics it had to have some longitude in the game as it was pointless changing just to have to change again.

"In the end it got us a point and could it have got us the win?

"Well we had a couple of little half chances.

"Since I have been here there has hardly been a game where I haven't had to do something drastic substitution wise or tactics wise or to try and do something because we have gone a goal behind.

"That just happens too often but you look at the results today and if we had won our home game then we could have put the pressure on again.

"I am disappointed but we'll keep working and we'll keep trying.

"We can't give them any more quality than they have got but we have got to make sure that we keep the commitment right; that is why people are applauding them to a degree.

"We don't give up and when we got a goal behind, we try to get back in games and that is why people applaud them to a degree.

"The bottom line is that the quality that you need to win games is lacking.

"We have been bottom of the league most of the season and that affects them to a degree but we are bottom of the league for a reason.

"You can't tell me after 40 games that the league table lies, we are under no illusions.

"These last two weeks we have had the games that could have got us out; you start with Brentford, then Dagenham, Barnet, Mansfield and here today, they were games that we needed to win.

"Points from the games against Darlington and MK Dons were massive bonuses but today, when it is the real 'nitty gritty' ones, we have been the equal of all of those teams.

"We just can't the win and that is where our big problem lies.

"These last two weeks we have some great opportunities and some great games, where we have had the chance to punish teams but we have not done it so that is why we are where we are.

"We need a win from somewhere to lift everybody and once again I have not got an ounce of criticism from any of the players for their effort or commitment.

"We just make silly mistakes, we made a mistake for the goal but we have managed to claw our way back in and that's the story of our lives.

"Young Marc did well for us today playing in a different role and we felt that we needed to try something different. In the first ten minutes we could have had ten goals from the situations that we got ourselves into.

"They are a great bunch of lads, we won't give up and the players won't give up.

"The quality that we need at certain times doesn't happen often enough."
