SCOTTISH League one club Greenock Morton have completed the signing of striker Jon Newby, who had recently been training with Burton Albion.
Ton manager David Irons was pleased at having finalised things with the former Wrexham striker prior to their pre-season fixtures.
"We had him up for talks on Friday, and we just needed to iron out a couple of things before we could sign him, " said the former Gretna boss.
"I have pursued it for a few weeks - he was top scorer last season for Morecambe, and scored 11 goals in 15 games."
Irons added: "He's definitely got something. He's pacey and gets in behind defenders. He's not a hold-up player, but he's certainly quick."
Newby scored twice in Monday night's 9-0 win over non-leaguers Threave Rovers.
Also up in Scotland recently has been Mike Carvill, spending some time training with SPL new boys Hamilton Accies, before heading for a similar period with Morecambe.
Meanwhile, Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has decided not to pursue his interest in trialists Drewe Broughton and Moses Swaibu. The pair joined up with the squad for pre-season training but according to the Gills website, failed to make an impression on the gaffer.
Bustling striker Broughton was considered surplus to requirements following the capture of 6'05" Mark McCammon from Doncaster Rovers, who had been their main transfer target all summer.
Signing a one-year extension to his contract with Premiership club Middlesbrough is former loanee forward Tom Craddock, who will add more competition to Boro's frontline next season.
The Darlington-born forward was a member of their 2004 FA Youth Cup winning side and made his Boro debut in the famous away game at Fulham on the last day of the 2005-06 season, when then Boro boss Steve McClaren field a side comprising of 15 locally-born players.
He has since made another four appearances for the Boro first team in between loan spells at both Wrexham and Hartlepool.
After announcing his intention to switch to Grimsby Town, Wales international Chris Llewellyn has sorted out the paperwork on Humberside and signed a contract with the Blundell Park club.
Walsall have signed out-of-contract Doncaster defender Stephen Roberts on a Bosman free transfer.
The 28-year-old Wales squad member turned down a new Rovers deal to sign a two-year contract with Walsall - and is Jimmy Mullen's first major signing.
"Stephen is a proven, quality player at League One level and he is beginning to earn international recognition," Mullen told the Saddlers' website.
He has spent the last three seasons at the Keepmoat Stadium and played a part in their promotion to the Championship in 2007/08 but missed their play-off final victory over Leeds through injury.
"He played a major role in Doncaster's success last term and we are delighted to have him on board," Mullen added.
Finally one further name is that of physio Joe Hinnigan, who has moved to Accrington Stanley to replace the outgoing Ian Liversedge, who in turn has linked up with his former Burnley boss Stan Ternent at Huddersfield.
