MARK JONES: WHY I'M LEAVING WREXHAM
Rob Griffiths - Daily Post
Wrexham midfielder Mark Jones says he will definitely be leaving the club this summer, whether the Dragons avoid relegation or not.
Jones admits he does not know where he will end up next season, but it will not be at the Racecourse.
"It's definitely been a difficult decision to make," he said. "I've been at Wrexham since I was eight years old and I am a fan of the club, but I just felt it was time to move on.
"I wanted a new challenge, just something different. I haven't been playing for the last two months and it's been really difficult to be on the sidelines watching while we have been struggling at the bottom of the table.
"I've not been able to do anything about it and that's the disappointing thing for me."
Jones is out of contract in the summer, but will not be allowed to leave on a free transfer as he does not turn 24 until August, and therefore compensation is required.
High-flying Swansea and Cardiff, plus Burnley and Barnsley, are among those said to be monitoring the Wales international.
"My mind is made up and that is the end of it," he added. "It's not down to the idea of international football either, it's never been about that. I just feel the time is right to for a new challenge."
Jones also had a message to the Wrexham supporters, saying: "The fans at Wrexham have been fantastic, and it has been a really difficult decision for me to make.
"Even when we have been down at the bottom of the table and I have been playing badly they still get behind the club, every one of them.
"I'm not leaving with any kind of malice at all, everyone at the club has been great with me, but this is something I feel I have to do."
BRIAN LITTLE NOTTS FAZED BY DRAGONS DISTRACTIONS
Rob Griffiths - Daily Post
WREXHAM boss Brian Little admitted there was a "million and one things going on behind the scenes" at relegation-threatened Wrexham, but insisted his first priority was winning tomorrow's match with Notts County.
Little added he was making plans for the future behind the scenes, which ever division the club finds itself in next season, but his only concern still was attempting to keep the Dragons in the Football League.
Wrexham are nine points adrift of safety with just four games to go ahead of the visit of fellow relegation candidates Notts County tomorrow afternoon.
Little has already brought back Conall Murtagh from his loan spell at Droylsden and yesterday recalled on loan pair Levi Mackin (Droylsden) and goalkeeper Michael Jones (Hinckley).
"We are looking at a number of things and a number of players for a number of reasons," said the Wrexham boss yesterday. "They've been out on loan and had a few games here and there and we felt we wanted them to come back for our last few games.
"We are already making plans behind the scenes for whatever league we are in next season, and while we still have four games to go and are still not going to give up, we are putting things into plan for whatever outcome.
"There are millions of things I would like to talk to you about publicly. There's a million and one things going on behind the scenes, but at the moment all I am concentrating on is Saturday's game and trying to get the win."
Meanwhile, on-loan trio Stuart Nicholson, Rob Duffy and Drewe Broughton all look to have made their last appearance for Wrexham, this season at least.
While Little stopped short of admitting what players he was interested in keeping for next season, he did say that he had spoken to all three.
The trio are unlikely to feature in tomorrow's match against Notts County, but only because Little is interested in looking at other options at his disposal.
"We are in that period of time at the moment where there is going to be a lot of speculation surrounding us," he said. "I have spoken to Drewe and we have talked quite a lot, but he is not likely to be involved on Saturday as I want to have a look at other options. One of which is young Marc Williams, who has done particularly well for us over the last couple of games.
"But while we are planning for next season, we are still very much looking at this season and we are focussing on Saturday's game with Notts County.
"But at the same time I can't tell you or anyone else what players are going to be involved until I tell those players myself.
"We still want to win all of our remaining games, and I will be making changes to the side that played last week because the players looked drained. They looked like players who have been at the bottom of the Football League for a number of months."
