Boston United
THE fight for Football League survival concludes this weekend as WREXHAM take on Boston United at the Racecourse.
Wrexham's excellent run of form has put them two points ahead of their relegation rivals, and Pilgrims' manager Steve Evans knows only a win will do otherwise they will be facing the prospect of non-league football next season.
After last week's results, there are now only three teams facing the prospect of joining Torquay United in dropping out of League Two. Accrington Stanley's 3-2 victory against Macclesfield Town means they are mathematically safe, along with Bury who gained a precious point away to Stockport County.
Should Macclesfield lose at home to Notts County this weekend, they can go down should Boston win at the Racecourse.
The Dragons will have the benefit of a huge crowd behind them, with around 12,000 expected to be packed into the ground for this end of season decider.
A run of three wins in a row gave Brian Carey's side some breathing space at the bottom of League Two, but the narrow defeat at Walsall last week means there is still work to be done to ensure survival.
Wrexham were actually safe for 12 minutes during their last game, until Ishmel Demontagnac's goal put them behind. Boston struggled against the ten men of Torquay, but gained a point after a late goal from Drewe Broughton.
Brian Carey may have Mark Jones back in the squad if the midfielder recovers from injury in time for the Dragon's final game. Robbie Garrett's loan from Stoke has ended and Danny Williams may play through the pain barrier as he struggles on with a back injury.
Boston's injury worries may be of greater concern, as they look likely to be without defenders Paul Ellender and Colin Cryan. David Galbraith went off injured last week and is unlikely to feature.
Boss Steve Evans has been unable call upon a squad of 16 players in the last few games and looks set to include youth players in his side for this one.
Last Time Out
It was a match to forget when Wrexham travelled to Yorke Street back in December. After Mark Jones pulled out during the warm-up, things did not get any better when Boston took the lead after 22 minutes courtesy of Anthony Elding.
Defender Steve Evans was then sent off after a clash with Drewe Broughton and Boston punished the 10-men by scoring a further three times, Broughton (2) and Elding again completing the rout.
With Wrexham looking odds-on for the drop after defeat against Notts County, many fans would have been happy to take a final day decider against Boston in order to save their season.
One more performance from Brian Carey's men, and we will be looking forward to games against Brentford and Bradford next season, rather than Cambridge and Crawley.
