Match Preview - Hereford United
WREXHAM will have to recover from a heavy cup defeat as they take on Hereford United at The Racecourse this Saturday (3pm).
An unfamiliar Dragons line-up were unable to match Premiership side Aston Villa, eventually succumbing to a 5-0 defeat, ending the Dragon's interest in the Carling Cup for another season.
Hereford United also bowed out on Tuesday night when they faced Birmingham City at St. Andrews. Goals from O' Connor and McSheffrey put the Blues 2-0 up, but a Theo Robinson goal set up a nervy finish for the home side, who managed to hold out to progress to the next round.
This was the first time the Bulls have tasted defeat this season, with Graham Turner's side lying in 9th place in League Two after one victory and two draws.
They opened up with a 0-0 draw at home to former League One side Rotherham United, and went on to gain their first win of their League Two campaign as they came from behind to defeat Barnet 2-1 at Underhill. Goals from Trevor Benjamin and Theo Robinson did the damage, after Jason Puncheon's goal put the home side ahead.
Last week they came from behind to gain a point against Rochdale, with Theo Robinson again getting on the scoresheet.
The game against Hereford will see the return of a familiar face to the Racecourse. Former Dragons' goalkeeper Mike Ingham has signed a short-term contract with The Bulls, though has not featured as yet this season. The 27 year old 'keeper was released by the Dragons at the end of last season, and is currently back-up to Wayne Brown at Edgar Street.
Brian Carey is likely to change things around again after the cup defeat against Aston Villa. Michael Jones, Conall Murtagh and Levi Mackin all featured in a 4-5-1 formation, and the Dragons' boss is likely to revert to a familiar 4-4-2 with Richard Hope, Neil Roberts, Danny Williams and Anthony Williams likely to return.
Last Time Out
It was one win apiece last season with both sides winning their home games against each other. Wrexham went down 2-0 to the Bulls at Edgar Street at the end of December, as Alan Connell's brace took the points for the home side.
Earlier in the season Wrexham had Steve Evans to thank as the big defender's goal resulted in a 1-0 win.
