Match Preview - Macclesfield Town
After the impressive performance at Accrington Stanley, WREXHAM are on their travels again as they face Macclesfield Town on Saturday (12.30 kick off).
Two accomplished finishes from striker Neil Roberts helped the Dragons to a 2-0 victory last Friday, with the side recovering in the perfect fashion from the heavy defeat against Chesterfield.
Although the result still leaves the Dragons hovering just outside the relegation zone, a win against the Silkmen could push us safely into mid-table with ten teams separated by just three points.
Our opponents have not had the best run of results of late - Ian Brightwell's side have not won in their last five games. On Wednesday a reshuffled side were knocked out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy after a narrow 1-0 defeat against local rivals Stockport County, Paul Tierney with the second-half winner.
Macclesfield have become the draw specialists of the league, recording seven draws from their ten games in League Two. Wycombe Wanderers and Chester City have both left Moss Rose with 2-1 victories this season, with Macc yet to win a game at home.
Last week they came up against Chesterfield, following the Spireites' impressive performance at the Racecourse. The Silkmen fell behind twice in the game, but fought back to secure a 2-2 draw courtesy of goals from Martin Gritton and Francis Green.
They currently lie in 18th position in League Two, one point ahead of the Dragons but having played one game more.
Wrexham will be without Steve Evans who is on international duty, and Mark Jones who was with the Welsh squad but has since pulled out through injury.
Last Time Out
The clubs faced each other just a few weeks ago in the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. A disputed Michael Husbands penalty helped the Silkmen to a 1-0 away victory. The match was however overshadowed by the refereeing performance of Darren Drysdale, who infuriated the home crowd by sending off Chris Llewellyn and Michael Proctor.
Last season Wrexham travelled to Moss Rose for a relegation six-pointer. Brian Carey's side never got going and Macclesfield eased to a 2-0 victory, thanks to goals from Matty McNeil and John Murphy.
As we know, the relegation battle went right to the final day - Wrexham's 3-1 victory over Boston United ensured that both clubs could look forward to League Two football for another season, Macc eventually staying up by two points.
