Match Preview - Brentford
WREXHAM will hope to make it three wins from four games when they travel to Griffin Park to take on Brentford this Saturday.
The Dragons gained another vital three points after defeating Bury last weekend, but despite the result Brian Little's side remain bottom of the table due to Mansfield Town winning 2-1 away to Bradford City.
This weekend Wrexham travel to Brentford, who will be looking to end a poor run of results. Last week they went down 3-1 to Morecambe, though things could have ended rather differently had Glenn Poole converted a first half penalty, shortly after the Bees went behind.
They were made to pay in the second half as Garry Thompson and Gary Hunter secured a 3-1 win, though Alan Connell had two efforts ruled out for the away side.
The defeat at Morecambe means that Andy Scott's side have lost six out of their last seven games, the only victory in this sequence coming at home to Macclesfield Town, Glenn Poole getting a last minute winner.
Manager Andy Scott has been in charge at the club since December, when Terry Butcher was dismissed following a run of two wins in fourteen games.
The Bees then steadied the ship somewhat, going on a run of five wins from six games. They currently lie in 12th place in League Two, 8 points behind Chesterfield who occupy the final playoff place.
Wrexham's injury problems seem to be improving, and Brian Little could have three of his first-teamers back for the visit to Griffin Park. Danny Sonner, Jeff Whitley and Neil Roberts should all be in contention for the game after recovering from their respective problems.
Carl Tremarco and Neil Taylor both picked up knocks last week against Bury, but they should also be fit.
Last Time Out
Brentford took all three points from their visit to the Racecourse this season. Chris Llewellyn's close range header put the Dragons ahead just before half time, after excellent work from Sam Aiston and Neil Roberts.
The Bees had the chance to level almost immediately, after Ryan Dickson went to ground under pressure from Shaun Pejic. However, Anthony Williams preserved the lead by saving Lee Thorpe's spot kick.
Brentford made their pressure count after the break, Alan Connell scoring either side of a Steve Evans' own goal, to secure a 3-1 away win.
Half Time Entertainment...
In recent seasons Brentford have run a 'Centre Circle Challenge' which involves two fans attempting to kick the ball into a small goal from opposite corners of the pitch. At half time I will be representing Wrexham, going up against my friend and lifelong Brentford fan Rik - hopefully I can do my bit to make it a Wrexham double!
