A second-year professional goalkeeper, Michael was promoted to the senior squad following the departure of Matt Baker to MK Dons in December 2004.
The Liverpool born keeper has made rapid progress through the youth ranks at the Racecourse since joining as a young schoolboy and was offered a scholarship in the summer of 2004.
Now a regular in our Pontin's League line-up, he acted as deputy to Michael Ingham for the last two campaigns and now backs up Anthony Williams.
He made his debut when coming on at half time at Chesterfield in January 2005, when replacing Spanish keeper Xavi Valero, and was beaten only by a penalty in a 4-2 win. However, he had to wait to make his first start in League 2 at Leyton Orient until September 2005, when he had a sound match in a 1-1 draw.
Jones got a more chances during the 2005-6 season and, apart from a torrid night at Wycombe which ended 4-1 to The Chairboys, emerged with great credit, confirming the high opinion the Wrexham coaching staff have of him. In fact, that loss was the only time he ended up on the losing side in seven games that season.
His unbeaten record was obliterated in September 2006 though, when Mike Ingham pulled out at Stockport following the warm-up. Jones was thrown into the side with little notice and County ran riot, beating a dispirited Wrexham side which had lost 5-0 at Accrington in midweek 5-2!
