THE Reds ran out 3-2 winners in this afternoon's Pontin's League game at Bury, although coach Joey Jones felt that the home side had played the better football.

"I have say that while we started the match well, to be fair to them, they came back strongly and overall I thought they were the better team," he said.

In that opening 20 minute period it was all one-way traffic.

Mike Carvill hit the outside of a post after just two minutes, a minute later from a Matty Done corner Lee Jones had a shot well saved and on the rebound Shaun Pejic forced another spectacular save from keeper Mike Smith.

From the resulting corner, Smith was in action again to deny Pej's flying header!

It was was therefore no surprise when we went in front on five minutes, Eifion Williams broke free, rounded the keeper but Smith fouled him. While the referee didn't whistle, it was left the linesmans to flag up for what seemed a fairly clear cut spot kick.

Matty Done stepped up to take the kick, which the keeper saved low to his left, but the winger was on hand to slam home the rebound.

The experienced Simon Yeo had a hooked shot that just cleared the far post, but then it was Wrexham back on the attack.

On 17 minutes, captain Andy Fleming's curving shot drifted just wide from 20 yards, but three minutes later it was 2-0 to the Reds.

Eifion flicked on for Marc Williams to race clear and as the keeper advanced to the edge of his area the Wales U21 striker made no mistake with a firm shot into the net.

At this stage, it looked set for another high scoring victory, but the Shakers shook themselves up and within a minute Yeo went close with another effort from inside the box.

On the half hour mark, along free kick inside their half found Yeo on the edge of the Wrexham box, he looked up to pick out Dale Stephens with a great perceptive pass. The young midfielder scored with a low shot into the corner of the net.

Ten minutes into the second half, the scores were levelled up when Carvill fouled Domaine Rouse on the edge of the area up against the by line.

It was left to Jack Dorney who finished with an excellent penalty into the top of Michael Jones' net.

Just three minutes later, Carvs was involved again at corner which lead to Eifion' header from six-yards being headed onto against the underside of his own crossbar by Ricky Anane before being cleared.

From a breakaway Rouse could have put his team in front, but Carrots showed up well to tip the effort away.

The winning goal was a little fortunate as Eifion Williams actually scuffed his effort on 61 minutes, but they all count. He turned to get in a shot that but it ended up goinng under the keeper!

For the last 20 minutes, there was shuffle in formation with Danny Williams switching from midfield to defence, Pej went out to full back and Robbie Garrett moved forward into midfield.

"If the players on duty today are looking to get back into the first team, then they will have to do better," said the Wrexham coach.

"I thought Lee Jones did particularly well and was our best player.

"Marc Williams took his goal well and Eifion was constant threat, as well as scoring himself."

This was our third consecutive win in the league and fourth in five matches, as we continue to improve our league position.
