Pontin's - Wrexham 0 Tranmere 0

WREXHAM followed up last week's success at Blackpool with a well deserved point at home to Tranmere Rovers, who fielded no less than seven of the starting line-up which won 5-0 in a League Cup clash only six weeks ago.
This time the Reds were a different proposition and the visitors knew they were in for a hard night when conceding a series of early corners.
Joey Jones had only Lee Roche from the professional ranks, with the rest of his squad either trainees or schoolboys, and there was also a place in the forwards for trialist Lee Thomas from Llandudno FC.
As usual Marc Williams lead by example from the front not allowing the Rovers defence to settle, getting good support from Sion Edwards in the left flank.
After 15 minutes, Edwards floated over a corner when was met by Williams and he was unlucky to see his header cleared off the Tranmere line by Olly James.
Then on the stroke of half time another corner caused the Merseysiders problems with Gareth Evans forcing a scrambled clearance which fell to Neil Taylor and he saw keeper Phil Palethorpe pull off a good save.
The second half saw more of the same from both teams, but Wrexham were unfortunate not to benefit from the corner whipped into the the near post from the left hand side, which evaded a number of red shirts before being hacked away to safety
In the final minute, Marc Williams had his shirt nearly pulled off his back as he shaped to fire a shot at goal, but amazingly the referee failed to spot the incident, which should have resulted in a penalty and a late chance to claim all three points!
The only downside to the night was an early injury to Aaron Braisdell, which saw the youngster hobble off the pitch after just 17 minutes to be replaced by Wes Baynes. His ankle was swollen after the game and physio Mike Williams was worried that the striker might have suffered ligament damage, but it will be a day or two before the full extent of the problems is known.
Coach Joey Jones was pleased with the display:
"That was a much better performance from the lads.
"We told them not to be worried and to go out there to compete, which they did.
"It was interesting watching trialist Lee Thomas, as I thought he produced some good runs, which is always going to be difficult when you don't even know the names of your new team mates."
