This early afternoon clash at Colliers Park saw the young Dragons totally dominate the game without ever really hitting top gear, but a failure to cash in on numerous chances ultimately proved costly, as they had to settle for a point from a 1-1 draw.

With George Stewart a constant threat to the Shrimpers down the right hand side Wrexham were on the front foot for much of the first half but despite a number of crosses into the visitors' penalty area none were converted and so the game remained scoreless at the break.

Finally the Dragons did break the deadlock in the 55th minute. A good move down the left hand side saw the ball eventually fed into the path of Jordan Kane who beat his marker before stroking the ball to the keeper's left and into the corner of the net.

At this stage it looked as if the Dragons would take the game away from their visitors but it never materialised and they were rocked back when Morecambe grabbed an unlikely equaliser. A long punt forward by the keeper landed behind the Wrexham back line and a Shrimpers' striker found himself clear on goal before slotting the ball home.

"We should have won by five or six, but we didn't," Steve Cooper declared. "It's probably the most disappointing result so far this season!"
